The new NCEES computer based testing format will take effect in January 2018 for the PE Chemical Exam.
The changes to the PE Chemical exam with include both CBT and the new LOFT Format (linear on the fly).
The Chemical exam’s set of questions will have the same degree of difficulty and will include multiple select answers, point and click (identify answer on a graphic), drag and drop (click and drag items to their correlating match, sort, rank or label) and fill in the blank.
The new format PE Chemical exam has 80 questions total and the examination time is 9 hours. The exam itself takes 8 hours to complete. While the format itself is new the examination topics haven’t changed since April 2011.
The PE Chemical exam is closed book, however there is a searchable electronic handbook that is accessible on the monitor during the exam.
The NCEES will continue to transition all PE disciplines to the new exam format.
Starting in June you can register for the CBT Chemical exam with the NCEES. Exams will start in January 2018 and be available all year through Pearson VUE centers.
